Who am I?

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,

I struggle on, head puzzled.

Who am I?

Half English, half Afghan

I feel English, yet I feel Afghan

My heart is bombarded with contrasting emotion

Every shot I fire feels like a dagger to the heart,

As if I am killing my own brother, my own people,

But are they my own people?

I don’t know.

I have my orders and follow them,

Yet my shoulders are heavy with burden.

Who am I a patriot to?

What can I do? But carry on as normal

Who am I? What should I do?
