A Life Worth Living

I wake up every morning,

Dreading the day ahead,

It’s not glorious or glamorous,

Not pretty or fun,

A life of dread,

A life of fear,

A life with no voice

I fear for my life,

I fear for my family,

I fear we have no choice,

To change the course of destruction.

It is not without great sadness that I tell each person here,

That mine is not a life worth living,

That Mine is not a life at all.

I live in anticipation for the day when the white’s will go too far,

The day when their merciless comments turn to a cloud of death,

And havoc is wreaked upon the world.

I cannot live in this world anymore,

I cannot take another person telling me that I am worthless,

I cannot survive through another day living in fear,

When will it end?

It’s not so much the physical,

Not the spiritual, not the material,

But the emotional jabs that cut the deepest,

Into my very soul they seep

Will these wounds ever mend?

It is not without great sadness that I tell each person here,

That mine is not a life worth living,

That mine is not a life at all.

I imagine a life of freedom,

Free of sorrow and despair,

But deep down I know,

The past will always scar me,

A battle wound,

A haunting memory,

I cannot forget.

The face of my brother,

When I watched his body go limp,

And with his neck bound by the hands of all things evil,

He took his last fighting breath.

It is not without great sadness that I tell each person here,

That mine is not a life worth living,

We need a new beginning.
