Part 2
Bear Sting
As I wandered
Through the trees
I saw a cloud
It was a swarm of bees
It buzzed around
And made a noise
That made me think
Of scalextrix toys
A talking mongoose
Sauntered by
Whistling loudly
It caught my eye
It shouted at me
For staring so
I said sorry
And in a voice so low
Muttered deeply
To myself
That mongoose talks
It could have its own show
A chat show maybe
Or even a quiz
To replace Chris Tarrant
The job’d be his
Then a small idea
Came to my mind
To star in a movie
The first if its kind
A long haired mongoose
In the lead role
A film about corn flakes
Poured in a bowl
Ten minutes on
Still standing there
When into my vision
Lumbered a bear
The bear said nothing
And climbed up a tree
And all of a sudden
Got stung by a bee
The poor bear yelled
And scrabbled for grip
Fell into quicksand
Then sunk like a ship
I examined the sand
And saw small people
They were waving and pointing
At a church steeple
And on the tower
I did plainly spy
A small brown bear
With a sting in his thigh
The sand was squashy
And lumpy too
It felt like plasticine
In my shoe
I tested the depth
With a big long stick
It stopped in the middle
So I gave it a kick
It moved a little
But not enough
So I waggled it around
And was downright rough
It finally broke
So now I had two
I threw one away
And went to the loo
When I came back
Something bounced off a tree
It hit me on the head
But I couldn’t see
I had fallen in the quicksand
And couldn’t get out
‘I could just reach the stick’
I thought with some doubt
And then I sunk further
And dropped out of a cloud
I thought of the mongoose
His whistling so loud
I decided to stop
So I pulled on some brakes
I landed in a field
By a cluster of lakes
This world was all right
I thought to myself
No national healthcare
But fields and wealth
I jumped on a train
And headed for town
I stopped at the church
When a fog came down
The church was tall
Couldn’t see much more
I knew the bear was up there
I’d seen him before
So I went the see the vicar
To ask about the spire
He ushered me away
Threatening with fire
He ate a fruit cake
Which he shoved down his neck
Then the whole world shuddered
As the bear hit the deck
The bee sting had gone
And the bear was so happy
He’d made a small parachute
From an old nappy
As he sailed down
He saw his mistake
So he let himself freefall
What a risk to take
When the dust cloud had gone
The bear suddenly cheered
He’d seen his friend mongoose
I thought ‘that’s weird’
For all this time
I never knew they had met
When all along
They were having a bet
To see who could make it
And be famous still,
The bear was a stuntman
The mongoose owned a mill
I was stuck in this world
But I didn’t care
The bear was quite friendly
He let me live in his lair.
