Love means letting go

I thought that of love was in giving so much.
There's healing power in each loving touch.
Never was I the one who would know
that the greatest part of love was in letting it go.
My love was a cocoon holding you inside
to protect you from harm from the cruel world outside.
But by holding onto you so tightly and so much
I could see you withering at the slight of my touch.
They say the gift of love is the gift of wings.
Great poets have written of such tender, sweet things.
You can not hold a free and beautiful butterfly.
With its graceful wings it was born to fly.
It must break free of its cocoon or it will surely die.
Then allow me to enjoy loves precious gift to soar.
Though I have not of it to hold anymore.
When I see all the great things meant for it to do
I see the butterfly, and my baby I see you.
