Isolated in my thoughts

I often ask myself the question

Where am I going?

Would I rather soar above the clouds

And land amongst the highest crowds

Or shall I take the path undefined

And leave a mark of recognition

To ease my troubled mind?

Yet the shadows beckon me to follow

And curiosity drives me to sin

All I see are silhouettes of dreams long forgotten,

Lingering upon an endless horizon.

Devoid of shape and shimmer and sparkle,
They dissolve into the barren sea

And leave me drenched in bitter delusion

Of what destiny has in store for me.

Even still I set my eyes upon the highest route

In an attempt to envision my life anew,

I trudge along an unchartered course

Hoping whatever I may find

Will bring me one step closer

To where I need to be.

But how will I know where the journey ends

And how do I justify my existence

When all I’ve been pursuing

Are scattered remnants of a past

Left buried in the sands of time?

Murky waters have never frightened me before

But now I long to see my life reflected in entirety

Instead of misty thoughts in passing,

Fleeting and deceiving.

So I’ll build a fort in my defense

Where my body will be safe

And free from cruel suspense,

My heart will roam the earth

Until I find the place

Where I finally belong.
