Tiva encountered a mystery as she was heading to her grandfather's mansion together with her father. It was nearing winter and as they were passing my an old white house, she saw an apparition of an old lady waving at them. Curious, Tiva took a long glance and realised that it was just an apparition of a dummy.

It was nearing winter and it was my summer holiday school break. I was happy to be seeing grandpa at Lakehouse Mansion once again. It has been ages since I last saw him and I realised how much I've missed him. It was nearing Christmas and Christmas tress were seen decorated outdoors. Houses were lighted brightly with coloured lights and enormous christmas bells and coloured bows were hung on doors. It was a merry season.

The sky was starting to get starry as it neared late evening. It started to drizzle a bit as the sky grew darker. Dad was driving his old white jeep at a slow motion so that we could have a good view of the scenery outside. I sat lazily and dreamily gazed out the window as the jeep made its way slowly along a row of beautiful houses. Winter was coming and some snow was seen piled at certain areas near Lakehouse Mansion.

As the car steered on, I noticed that one of the houses had a window opened ajar with the curtain drawn aside. The beige coloured creamy lacy curtain was billowing in the wind. I soon noticed an apparition that looked like an old woman waving her hand slowly to us. I couldn't tell since it was a vague shadow and all I noticed was that she had short curly hair and held on to something that looks like a walking stick on her other hand.

"Dad, did you see that?" I called my father who was busy driving while chewing gum. He was tuning on to his favourite radio channel. "Notice what?" He replied casually. "Nothing, I just thought I saw an old lady waving at us. She looks like an apparition." I was breathing hard due to my heart beating fast.

"Sweetheart, relax. Let's take a quick look to ensure that you were just seeing things. Maybe you were too tired so you were dreaming awake." My dad decided to reverse his car and stopped at the house where I've spotted the so called apparition.

I nodded unsurely. I wasn't prepared to take another look at the strange apparition. As he reversed the jeep, I took a deep breath as I held on tightly to the hem of my dress.

Dad reversed the jeep to the exact house which I had recalled noticing the apparition. I turned quickly and noticed that somebody had switched on the light upstairs. I couldn't believe my eyes. Right in front of me, I saw that the apparition was actually a dummy. A real life dummy sewn like a rag doll with an arm waving up and down facing the window.

"Dad, it was actually a dummy." I heaved a sigh of relief. "You were right, my eyes were playing tricks on me. it must be that I'm too tired. I've been awake all night decorating the christmas cards to be sent to grandpa and other relatives."

My dad didn't reply but just grunted. Puzzled, I leaned in front to tug at his sleeve. Suddenly, he turned and I saw that his face was an ugly grimaced and that there were sewn marks on his lips, chin and neck. I screamed and pushed him away as I scrambled out of the jeep. As I unconsciously ran towards the house, I heard an old woman's voice called out. "Sweetheart, come in. Your dad is waiting for you inside."
