Not all adventures are planned by you .

Everlasting Adventure

“Life itself is an adventure”, said my father instead of saying “I cannot afford for your adventure”. I always dreamt about African safari. But it was a costly affair and for a guy like me, it was just a dream. By the way call me Mr. Common.

I drove to my college on a bike, which no one dares to. On reaching the parking lot, I applied disc, sorry risk brakes, assisted with my legs. As I was parking, I found an envelope lying on the ground just beside my bike. It looked mysterious as there was no “From” and “to” on it. I was little skeptical if I could open it or not as it could be anything including a bomb. But the fact is, right from Pandora, it was always the curiosity that overcame suspicion in human history. Not throwing any exception to it, I opened the envelope .I was stunned to see 50000$ in it and a small note which read this way:

If this envelope is not yours, please hand it to the Orphan’s trust, downtown. This money is to cure one seriously ill orphan .Your action will be rewarded”

I tried to find silly reasons not to return it and instead spend it on my dream safari adventure. I thought “they shouldn’t have been so careless when it was important”. I thought “I really deserved it” at least for the risk taken in touching a strange thing in the days where bomb blasts are everywhere.

I made sure that security guard was not observing and kept the envelope in my bag and started walking. To my surprise an old and ugly looking mad guy, call him Mr. Ugly started blocking my way. He was trying to say something but seemed to be dumb and tried to grab my bag. Unable to defend myself, I called the security guard to pull him away saying “he is insane” and entered office canteen. I felt some strange familiarity with him. He looked liked a roasted frog that lived in the sun.

I started planning for my adventure while I had a sip of coffee. Suddenly my vision started ceasing and I lost consciousness.

I woke up to see myself in African forest, my dream land. I could see people in strange attires. A brief look at me revealed I looked ugly just like Mr. Ugly I had seen in the parking lot. Not just I, the people around looked like roasted frogs as well maybe due tosevere temperatures. I tried to shout only to find I am dumb. I looked at my digital watch and stunned to see the date as March 1st 2058.

I not only looked exactly like Mr. Ugly, in fact I am Mr. Ugly .So he is no stranger but Mr. Common himself in future. The cursed envelope ported me to future, to my dream destination not in the way I intended.

The words “I really deserve it” and “he is insane” which I told 50 years back in parking lot started echoing in my ears. It is true that I am insane to think of my own dreams at the cost of others life.

I wondered who would kick me back to my time and place. Then I remembered Mr. Ugly who tried to grab the bag from me. So he tried to block me just to stop this to happen, which I was unable to understand at that time.

So I, Mr. Ugly will somehow get back to 2008 and try to stop Mr. Common taking that envelope.

But I already knew that Mr. Common wouldn’t listen to Mr. Ugly in 2008 and thus will this thing keeps on looping?

My god! This is an everlasting adventure that I had bought myself by being very selfish. May be for all the times it’s going to repeat itself, “I really deserve it”.

I now realized that there is always a rightful way to reach dreams though it needs efforts as my father used to say and that stolen dreams will always steal life from us. I closed my eyes and cried out loudly for my helpless situation.

Suddenly, I could feel someone kick me very hard on my back and I opened my eyes to see people looking strangely at me in the canteen and I was Mr. Common again. The everlasting adventure ended with a realization in me and a kick on my back.
