I wrote this poem/shot story when I was at intermediate school when we were studying poetry. I'm not realy sure that it would pass as a poem but my friend inspired me to write this. She was telling me abut how so many children look forward to come home to a loving home but some dread haveing to come home. Well this is quite depressing but I hope you like it :)

I hear the door creak open...

"Mummy!" I scream, "He's home, he's home!"

He greats me with a loving smile

Mummy runs to the door and kisses Daddy

"I love you Daddy, I love you Mummy"

This my perfect family

I wish it were real.

I hear the door creak open...

"Mummy!" I scream, "He's home, he's home!"

Mummy runs to the door

She slides the deadlock closed

Mummy holds me tight as we sprint from the door

We hide in a closet, our knees burning

It's only a moment until Daddy finds us

His tell tale breath of alcohol lingers outside the closet

"Mummy" I whisper, "He's found us, he's found us!"

Daddy hears me and tears down the door

He steals Mummy away from me

"No Daddy! No!" I scream but it's no use

I hear a loud slap and then a deaffening thud

Blood seeps through the cracks in the wooden planked floor

"I hate you Daddy! Mummy. I love you!"

This is my imperfect family

I wish it weren't real...
