The first time I played, I thought I was all that
Instead it sounded, like I was swinging a cat
But I practiced real hard, and practiced real long
And after a while, I could play a real song
We marched in parades
And we got lots of waves
But it was when, I played at my friend’s grave
I knew it was for someone, I thought real brave
I could not find, the right note to play
But I shall always remember, that very sad day
And at the end, I cried and cried
For my dear friend John, the one who just died
