Lights go out at the ball park
Total darkness surrounds me
Crowd cheers, subsides, echoes off…
Eyes endeavor to adjust
Silence fills the air with anticipation
Thump…sparks pursue the fiery tail
Into the dark night sky
Upward, upward, and upward it goes
Flash…
Torrent of sparks spilling down red and green
The crowd cheers yet again
Boom…
Sound moving slower than the light
Thump…Thump…
Others go skyward, bluepurple
Boom…boom…zizz…
Whistlers shoot off in all directions
Uhhhh…says the crowd in unison
Ahhhh…Ohhhh...
Time moves on…
How much more is there?
When will the end come?
Love for the finale is bittersweet
But it draws near… I sense it…
Thump…thump…flash…
Flash...boom, boom…thump, flash…boom
Night sky is a blank canvas
Pyrotechnics are the artists
One last thump…
Higher and higher and higher it goes…
Flash………Boom
Last one…biggest one…bright white light
Raining down like a willow tree, slowly…slowly…gone
Sky goes black
Blacker then before
Gunpowder permeates the humid air
Overflowing with electricity
The two are drawn together
The crowd’s reply is palpable
On this beautiful night…in July
