I wrote this to be read at the funeral service of my daughter who was with us for only a few hours but had the most enormous impact on our lives that anybody could ever have.
An event like that makes you realise how precious life is. Seize the day because you do not know what tomorrow holds in store.

Our Little Innocent

You will never know the warmth of our embrace,

never hear us whisper words of comfort,

never hear our lullabies.

All the love we saved up for you is trapped in a single moment,

that first moment we held you to say goodbye.

It's hard to find solace in anyone's kindness,

but there is one thought that carries us through.

You will never know pain like this,

will never be sullied by the cruelties of life

and you will never have to cry until your soul aches.

You will always be innocent.

You will remain forever untouched by sorrow

and your sleep will be more peaceful than any we will ever know.

Know we are always with you, Alice,

and you will always be in our hearts
