The Soul Walker tells one of the tales from The Ranger Chronicles. The story is set on a world free from technology known to it's inhabitant as Felmor. The are two different disitnct groups of people on Felmor. First there is the somewhat rare Mekkats, people with almost magic like powers, but unlike other worlds where these people would be feared thay are instead revered, by the other major race of people collectively known as Nomax, the animal changers.
The story tells of a young woman, Yentor, a mekkat. As a child her mentor 'vanished' without trace, follwing a visit from a group of men that had come looking for her forcing her to hide for most of her life. Still keeping to the Mekkat code of using her gifts for good she was allowed santuary in a Wolvus tribe who kept here existance a secret until a new chiftain seized control and threatened to expose her unless she used her gifts for more unscrupulos means, helping the new chiftain to conduct illegal slave trading.
Such crimes would not go unnoticed for ever and though the chieftain was clever enough to stay one step ahead of Felmor's offical law givers, the Aramel Guard he underestimated another group of law enforcers, the Rangers who closed down the operation but also exposed Yentar's existance to the world. Mekkats using thier gifts to harm others were considered Rogue and the punishements were severe and even though Yentar had been blackmailed into doing what she had done, in the eyes of Felmorian law there was no excuse.
Rather than languishing in prison though she was freed when the caravan escorting her was attacked and in the confusion she escaped. Unfortunately for Yentar her would be rescuers were none other than members of a secret group of people, the Zirconium Sword, the same group that were responsible for the disappearnace of her mentor when she was a child. They had found her after all this time and to all intensive purposes they did not seem to care if she was alive or dead.
Help though would come from an unlikely source, for Mekron, a Mekkat and head of the Rangers heard about the "rescue" attempt and began to look into Yentar's history only he could not find her in any records. There was obviosuly more to this than met the eye and when he learned that the Zirconium Sword were seeking her death he assembled a small group of the orignal Rangers, his trusted friends to try to find Yentar before the Zirconium Sword.

Mekron seeks not only to bring Yentar to justice for her previous crimes, but also to protect her from the Zirconium Sword and finally answer the mystery behind who she is and why people are seeking her death...

I would say this chapter is a little on the heavy side with the story introduced gently, before moving at a faster pace in the following chapters. Read Chapter

The Rangers had been reinstated and Mekron and Kentra are free, but unfortunately only because of Bashnik's intervention at the trial. His sacrifice had not been in vain and he had manged to help his student one last time. Given time the wounds would heal and so the best thing for Mekron and the others to do would put this behind them and look towards the path that lay ahead.

If you've got this far, I hoped you liked the story, the first one I've completed so I guess its a bit rough around the edges but I hope it was entertaining enough. Read Chapter
