I am tutoring in the Middle East, away from my new fiance. I am here for a year until June when I return to get married to her.

I don't tutor English but Science and Maths. I had to learn lots more about poetry to teach my tutees and ended up wanting to have a go. I've written poems in the past but never understood the mechanics. I've since learnt about assonance and rhythm.

This poem I kept to an ABAB format, with 8 syllables then 6.
I've also put a long 'o' sound from lonely into each line in stanza 1. In stanza 2 I switched to a long 'a' sound in 'strangers', 'faces' and 'fate'. I think I may have gone a little overboard with the 'ee' sound in the final stanza however.

I wandered lonely as a cloud,
Yet now it's overcast,
Where I get swallowed by the crowd,
The people blowing past.

Where all these strangers do surround,
Their faces know me not,
But to this fate I'm duly bound,
Until we tie the knot.

So wait for me, as I for you,
And dream of me I plea,
For all of time cannot undo,
When 'I' becomes a 'we'.
