Grandma's House
Entering the door as the chimes above welcome you,
You can't help but be greeted by the glorious smell that will soon occupy your stomach.
The old home is always familiar from the years you spent there as a child.
The refrigerator is jam packed with everything you can think of as you get your beverage and seat yourself.
The dinner plates on the counter all mixed and never matched, seemed to be comfortably overwhelming from the homemade porcelain and painted dishes.
The heavy utensil drawer was like silver snowflakes, none of them the same, even in the slightest detail.
Your cup seems to be bottomless and never ending as she fills it after every sip.
Your last bite and a soulful moan is the cue for desert.
You're almost forcing it down your own throat, but you can't help but enjoy it.
The meals end as a movie appears.
She rubs your tummy and runs her Band-Aid fingers through your hair.
You smile for all the love that is with it and feel more comfortable than you can ever be.
One last hug and kiss and you're out the door.
You want to cry with the step outside, chimes again and warmth rushes to your heart.
How can there ever be food or a place better than grandma's?
