He walks home, stricken.
Kicking pebbles, thinkin’
If he never said those words today,
She would have stayed.
This agonizing torture,
Knowing it’s his fault she’s gone,
Knowing she’d be here in the future,
Keeping him up ‘till dawn.
Her eyes stay in his mind,
Expressive and kind,
Welling up with tears
As he screamed out all her fears.
And the look of her mother,
As he apologized,
His words making her feel no better
As she sat there and cried.
This kind of guilt eats at you,
Kills you inside,
Hurting and tearing at you,
Poisoning your mind.
