Cold. So cold.
The memories faded with time. Bits and pieces; scraps of images, flashed in her mind, taunting her, reminding her what she would never again have. Looking up, as a dainty, gloved hand, her hand, was enveloped by a larger welcoming hand. A radiant smile with genuine warmth emanating from a person she once knew, but cannot now recall. The light inviting her in, welcoming her with love and serenity, before she was torn away by a voice calling out her name.
He did not even know he had the power. His grandmother had been one of those not spoken of, but he never imagined that he too had the power. He had been her father, and he called to her, from the side of her casket. A parent lamenting the loss of his child, crying out, “Why,” begging for her to return to him, oblivious to the fact that he was drawing her soul away from eternal bliss, and tying it to the earth.

Time no longer held meaning, so a second and an eternity flowed by as her soul became accustomed to the death chill. The cold had not lessened. She had simply existed within it so long, she was not quite so aware of it. She rose to at last see the world around her once more only to find all those she had once known were passed, including the father that had tied her here. He has moved into the embrace of the light, while she remained forever cold, eternally alone, in a world that no longer acknowledged her
