There comes a time when you know that you have to fade away, that the absence of your presence will do more good than if you continued to linger.

There comes a point in a relationship – be it friendship or anything else- that you simply have to know when to fade away. It’s hard, of course; after all, who really wants to do that? Who wants to willingly let yourself fade from someone’s life until they just stop caring, stop noticing that you’re gone? The thing is, if you don’t willingly do it, it’ll happen anyway. They’ll forget everything about you, and they’ll drift away themselves. You just have to realize one simple thing – you are meant to be forgotten. You’re meant to temporarily replace whoever it was a person may have lost until something better comes along. It’s just the way your life was planned.

So, with that in mind, you fade away yourself. You must train yourself to recognize the right time for this, so it goes smoothly and so that the other won’t realize what it is you’re doing. It’s possible that, for a moment, they’ll care. It’s possible that they’ll try to keep you close. More than likely, though, it won’t make a difference. It will be just another day in their life, simply without the added nuisance that you had been. Both are quite painful, but both are things you can live with. Each time it will happen, and each time you will continue to live with it.

Eventually, as with everything, you will get too tired of it all to continue on the same way you have been going. After all, nothing lasts forever. The irony is that your life source is simply one that was there to fill the momentarily empty space, as you had been filling the space in other’s lives for your entire existence. You’ll have had so much experience that you’ll know when it’s time for you to fade – this time, permanently. You’ll know when it is time for your life to vanish, so another, more important one can take its place. It’s possible that some of you may think that now is that time. It’s also very possible that you are right.

After all, that’s what we do. We learn when to fade away, and we do so the best we can.

I tend to write things relating to myself, so I suppose I am both glad and sorry that you find yourself in a similar position. I do hope it gets better for you. :)
