Based on the epic Inheritance cycle.

I based the poem on Saphira, the dragon of the protagonist Eragon. It is one of my favorite fantasy books.

Saphira Brightscales

Saphira Brightscales,
from Alagaesia she hails.
Blue as the fathomless waters,
both man and beast she slaughters.
Flies she faster than an eagle,
Queen of th'skies, she reigns regal.

Scales azure as a sapphire,
anger her and end in pyre.
Scales like mirrors in th'sun,
glistening covers hide her tonne.

Pity one under her fire,
from burning things she does not tire.
Ivory teeth tear men to shreds,
to meet her one day, anyone dreads.

She is vicious as a tiger,
but caring as a mother.
A fearsome warrior in battles,
whether alone, or with Rider in saddles.
