This is NOT a poem. Please do not think that it is. It is just the format that I used that I thought was best for it.

I walked through the forest, silent as a shadow.
Patches of light from the brigh full moon filtered
through the oak canopy. The sounds of night
surrounds me; the soft gurgling of a nearby stream,
the quiet hoot of an owl as it flies overhead on silent
wings, the rustling of mice as they scurry in the underbrush.

I pause midstep, cocking my head. My ears swiveling, picking up a sound.
I watch quietly as a doe and her fawn walk through the trees a few yards
ahead of me. A gentle breeze picks up, carrying my scent towards the pair.
The doe raises her head in alarm before turning around, fleeing into the darkness.
Her fawn close behind. Their white tails floating like ghosts.

I shake my head and continue on my sullen journey. Quickly, I approach a distant
opening in the tree line. I stop walking and gaze out at the sight before me.

The field is awash with moonlight. The slight breeze causing the tall grass to
shift and sway in the night, almost like a living sea of silver flame. With a quick scan
and a few breaths I take notice of the lack of inhabitants other than a herd of deer to the
west end.

I step lightly into the field, aware of the moonlight reflecting off my fur. I shake my head slightly.
The bane to my existence, being the only pure white wolf in this territory. Makes it hard to hunt
and journey in the night like this. With a sigh I continue on my journey, heading towards the only
clearing in the large tall grassed field.

I approached the solitary white boulder in the middle of the clearing and leaped onto it gently.
With a sigh I sit on my haunches, wrapping my tail around my legs and look up into the sky at
the bright moon. The Hunter's Moon. I raise my maw to the sky and let out a deep low howl from
the depths of my soul. Starting out soft, growing in length and volume.

My howl is the song of a shattered heart, a sorrowful soul. The song of one who has known the
gentle touches of love. One who has known the cold, heart wrenching touch of death. One who
has known the shattering of their heart as their loved one leaves.

I open my eyes and continue my howl, watching as a mist of rainbow forms in the sky, The northern lights.
A gift from Alpha and Beta. I watch as the form of a wolf starts to descend from this rainbow and comes towards me.
As the form touches to the ground I realize that it is the spiritual form of Beta. I lower my head, letting the howl die
down as it fades into the echoes of the night.

"Sister I hear your song. I come to you with a choice. Stay here or come with me." Beta says softly, her voice soothing and gentle.
I look to her then out to the field.

"Beta I.. I have no choice. I can not stay here. not without him in my life. He was.. Is.. the only one that I will ever love. He has given me
so much and has taken so much from me. There is no reason to stay here." I stop my words, tears threatening to take over and pour out.

Beta just nodded her head. "So be it. Follow me."

With that she turned and began to ascend back into the sky, her maw raised to the sky in a howl. Her song that one of redemption and happiness.
I followed behind her, raising my head to the sky, adding my howl to hers. I watch as the ground seems to disappear below me. A sense of
fulfillment and happiness begins to fill me. I can feel my heart slowly begin to patch itself back together.

At last, I shall no longer be a sorrowful soul wandering alone on the earth. I shall live in the eternal plains with a whole heart and nothing but happiness.
