Opposites

She gazes to her future

While he reflects his past

Both lonely both longing

Each for something else

She cloaked in youth’s finery

Like elegant armor

Vulnerable beneath

Her beautiful shell

He world weary and worn

With no hope for redemption

With one eye on the grave

And a heart forged in hell

Each as different

One from the other

As forgotten is to remembered

Two opposites that repel

Brought together at a distance

By the written word

Pouring out poetry

Each with a story to tell

Her bright new moon rising

His fading star falling

Passing from existence

At the toll of the bell

The beauty and the beast

One sought and one naught

Two sides of a coin

Tossed into the wishing well
