They say that hindsight is 20/20. Sometimes it’s .30-06

Used Dreams

I used to search for beauty

I used to search for truth

I searched for man’s nobility

In the naïveté of my youth

I  clung to my integrity

Tried to heed a higher call

Somewhere along the line I stopped caring

But I didn’t have far to fall

I partied all night before my SAT

I drank until I was blind

Then borrowed a number two pencil

To fill in a letter on every line

I used to seek adventure

I sought to live life on the edge

Each day was a new experience

A leap of faith from some precarious ledge

I used to look forward to the weekend

Now Monday morning is my goal

I used to be young and stupid once

But I managed to climb out of that hole

As a child I wanted to live to one-hundred

To see how the future would be won

Now feeling the aches and pains

Seeing the losses and gains

I’m satisfied with my run

At last now I search for nothing

As I draw in my last breath

When I look down the road to loneliness

I look forward to my death
