this form

this form, it says i'm a catholic

you know what is one of my biggest problems with religion

humility

most religions are based on the premise that somehow i know something that you do not

that a specific message , some truth is known to me

that i am chosen

and you are not

ask any wise sage and they will lay you straight

the greatest knowledge is knowing that i know nothing

few of us know anything worth knowing

in that we are equal

in that we united

we are in fact one

it says i am a catholic

i was born one

my father was not one but my mother’s family brought her up one

so i am a catholic

i learnt the religion

i went to the school

i was watered and confirmed by oil

so i am a catholic

my belief in “the Christian way” extends only as far as i this:

i agree you should be a good person – this Christ, this healer, this man, this god

he was a good person. yes. be like him

it says i am a catholic

so why do i doubt that everything can be repaired by the power of confession

i am a catholic

so how come i do not feel like a priest is any better, smarter, higher or closer to his maker than i am

if i am a catholic why do i feel reverence for a blue man my aunty read me stories about when i was little

and how come i shivered with happiness and felt my heart quicken when passing by a humble home in felicity on divali i peeked inside and saw a large blue statue standing quietly

and if i am a catholic why is there a small figure of a rotund smiling man sitting on my dressing table

why does the word om hold soo much power

why do i read 365 tao every morning...and not the scripture

and why is shanti tattooed to the back of my neck

and Namaste live in my heart

it says i am a catholic

i was born one

my father was not one

but he quickly converted when he was touched by the hand of the goddess they call mother mary

so i am a catholic

i learnt the religion

i went to the school

i was watered and confirmed by oil

so i am a catholic

i am a catholic

i was born one

my father was not one but my mother’s family brought her up one

maybe if we lived in a different country

i would not have learnt about guardian angels

about how only men can lead us to salvation

not only muslims are so infected

maybe if the my mother was more rebellious

or the Christian charity not so appealing

maybe i would kneel and make offering in the name of shiva, Buddha or tao

so i am a catholic.

but if i miss one more Sunday i feel that will be the last straw
