Heaven's Gate

There is this girl down the road.

She wears a sweater her mother sewed.

There is this girl a few houses down.

She lives on the bad side of town.

There is this girl down the street.

She wears shoes too little for her feet.

There is this girl, not a mile away.

She cries in bed at the end of each day.

There is this girl whose house is at the road's end.

She prays each night for god an angel to send.

There was this girl that cried each night.

Today she walked towards the light.

The hearse draws near.

I shed a tear.

I feel the wind blow.

Suddenly, I know.

She will cry no more.

For she is at heaven's great door.
