Caught Off Guard

My day was perfectly planned

With meetings all over the place

No room to breathe or make mistakes

I was busy keeping busy.

And then you walked in …

I couldn’t find the words.

Time froze to match my heart.

I didn’t know where to start.

You stood there, confused, so I excused,

I pulled it together, then returned bemused.

I’m logical – so where are my thoughts?

I’m organised – no, still, no connection…

Business! Business! Not emotion!

Too late; you held my attention.

Your eyes smiled – sorry what was the question?

Your voice – don’t ever stop talking.

Your honesty – perfumed my air.

Your dinner plans? – Oh! Wish I was there.

You’re doing nothing? – Ah! My pleasure!

Where’s my mind? Pull it together!

The hour’s gone? No, surely no.

It’s cold out there, it’s best not to go,

There’s so much I still have to say;

Please don’t leave me, please don’t go away.

A last question: Can I keep you…

Please stay
