I wake up, I see darkness
I feel panic setting in as I sit up in my bed
I hear the wind outside and the gentle padding of my cats paws on the floor before she jumps on the bed
I can't find her because I can't see
I feel my husbands body beside me, I know he's asleep because he is still snoring
I smell the coffee being brewed
I turn on the bed so my feet hit the cold, hard, smooth flooring
I can't be blind, how can this happen to me?
I stand, I feel the wall until I get to the door
My husband stirs, "Honey?" I hear his soft voice, confused
I cry from the bathroom, "I've lost my eye sight! Get me to the hospital!"
He jumps from the bed and runs to the bathroom to meet me
He grabs me by the arms and spins me to face him
Tears are running down my face
"Baby...just take your stupid night mask off and you'll be fine, I promise"
I do. And he's right. Jerk.
