Mirror mirror, on the wall
Who was the greatest poet of them all?
Some say Shakespeare with his iambic flare
While others claim Whitman, Auden or Yeats
Should take the cake, their souls laid bare
But my favorite poets put lyric to song
Over beats and chords, melody and bass
Replayable poetry with timeless grace
Morrison, Dylan, Pac and Biggie
Cobain, McCartney, Lennon and Iggy
Joplin, DiFranco, Joni and Hill
All moved me deeply with a power Sublime
Touching Nivana, close to divine
But the greatest poet of them all
Is anyone who dares to share or express
Their innermost thoughts
The weight on their chest
Yes, it's a cheesy, tawdry cliché
But who is that critic, on the sidelines in wait?
A poet in disguise, I tell you ... he'll speak truth one day.
