Because you are my father

There you sat ten feet in front of me in a West Virginia court room. My eyes grew dark when they asked me who you were? “ My father” I said. It nearly killed me to tell the story about how my mom wasn't home and you took advantage of me and ruined my innocence. I was so mad at you that all I could do was describe how much I hated you. The pain made me clench my fists and my face turn red. I knew I had to be afraid of you. If they found you guilty, I would have to spend the rest of my life running from you.

I was too scared to sleep at night that I soon began to sleep in the day stay up all night. I knew I couldn't trust anyone because who knew if they believed you or me. I checked my closet and under my bed every night. I couldn't stand the fact that I had to sleep sometime.

It felt like my life was over. I wanted to end it all then and there in my cold, dark, scary room that night, but then realized that would just help you win. I had almost given up on my life because of stupid things you did.

Well I finally got the help I needed. Life is worth living. I know I haven't forgiven you yet for molesting me and I don't know if I ever will, but I do know that there is some part of me that still cares for you. Because you are my father.
