Dwen Elmedolan is 8 years old and was born on the 29th of February in a town in Winchester.

On one lovely afternoon in April, while playing with his toy car, which was a present for his 8th birthday given by his parents, he thought of something of which a boy of 8 years old would never think. Why is it that my friends celebrate their birthdays every year while me, every four years? So then, he went down to the kitchen to meet his mother who was at the time, busy with the turkey.

"Mama?" he grabbed her attention.

"What is it, darling?" she asked.

"Why is it that I celebrate my birthday every four years?" he starts to state his curiousity.

"Why, that's because you're special and you're my baby," she leaned forward right before him, only to pinch his nose.

Dwen just laughed and he made his way to the living room. Ah, seems like his father is not busy. He walks towards his father who was sitting in his favourite couch reading the newspaper.

"Daddy?" he said.

"Yes, Dwen. What do you want?" he replied.

"Well, I asked Mama about this and I want your answer," he mumbled.

"Yes, of course. What do you want to know?" his father asked.

"Why is my birthday every four years?" he asked.

"Well, honey, that's because God wanted you to have your birthdays every four years. Too many presents is not always good, my dear."

"Hmm.." Dwen just walked away and headed upstairs towards his sister's bedroom.

"Szen, can you help me? I know you're kinda clever," he said while standing outside the door and making puppy eyes as a sign of permission to come inside his sister's room.

Szen is Dwen's 14-year-old sister. She's going through a hard time adapting and adjusting to puberty. She's not really intelligent when it comes to school matters. She's just a girl who likes to play make-ups and dress-ups. She's alert of the latest fashion trends, but not school subject chapters.

"Okay, sure. I think I'm clever enough to answer your questions."

"Well, why is it I celebrate my birthday every four years?" he asked.

Szen obviously doesn't know the answer as to she was making weird faces that clearly remarks that she doesn't know the answer.

"Sorry, kid. I'm not sure. I'll tell you when I know the answer. Alright?" she replied.

Dwen went down to the backyard. The backyard is peaceful with a landscape far better than any other houses in the neighbourhood. He sat on a park bench overlooking a small man-made pond with goldfishes hurdling around. Dwen went to sad mode now. He's sad that none of his family members took the time to figure out why he's birthday is every four years. He then fell into a deep nap on the bench.

"Dwen, wake up!" a voice startled him and he woke up.

"Yes?" he got up wiping his eyes.

"Do you know who I am?" the man in front of him asked.

"Sorry, sir. I don't," he replied.

"Well, I'm the Great Pharoah. I have slaves and my people worshipped me. The Guiza Pyramids were built under my commands," he said with pride as high as the Everest.

"Oh, as in the mummy? You look much better without the wrappers," he said.

"Why, thank you. Anyway, I've been told that you are unhappy," he said.

"Yes, I'm unhappy because.." before he could finish his sentence, the Great Pharoah interrupted.

"Young man, did you know that the calendar was created by a man of my race? The Egyptians?" he asked.

"No sir."

"Well, you were born in a leap year. A leap year is has 366 days with February having 29 days. A leap year occurs every four years," he explained.

"Oh, why is it like that?" he asked.

"It has something to do with the Earth's orbit that revolves around the Sun. You should meet my well-known astronomer, Imhotep. He's very intelligent but now, you have to wake up," the Great Pharoah clapped his hands and PAP! Dwen was awake.

He was much happier after the dream. Now, he knew about his well-being. And that was the story of how Dwen discovered why he celebrates his birthday every four years.

Fin.
