The new pond including fountain and waterfall project was coming along nicely, all the important bits were in place..planting around the new shaped pond, finished..the tower of oddly shaped stones which formed part of the new waterfall, finished..the little wooden bridge that spanned newly built pond, finished, although it did look decidedly dodgy and would only ever take the weight of the small brightly coloured fishing garden gnome that adorned the centre of it..the newly purchased fish were swimming merrily away in their new home and fairy lights were hung from every where possible but? still there seemed to be that final finishing touch missing...the creator of all this architectural finery decided a cup of tea was very much called for whilst the last few weeks of hard work were being admired and maybe, just maybe there would be a flash of inspiration...

?Eureka! that flash finally came...then after a few hours of drilling, banging, hammering and a few choice words emanating from the garden shed the finishing touch was ready

?Family and friends were invited for a bbq plus the grand opening of the new pond including fountain and waterfall project, which had been constructed under strict complete secrecy rules, as dusk finally descended a small speech was given which prompted a dramatic countdown...5....4....3....2....1 the switch was flicked and although this did result in all the house lights blowing the garden was transformed into a veritable wonderland..fairylights twinkled out from trees, bushes, flowers and even the hanging birdfeeder..success!

?Next was the crowning glory of it all, the waterfall, with baited breath the bemused crowd waited, then..there it was, beautifully floodlit, a lovely gentle sound of bubbling water filled the air and there sitting proudly on top of the oddly shaped tower of stones was the 'flash of inspiration' which had once been sitting proudly in 'her indoors' part of the garden, the part of the garden that was not allowed to be interfered with in ANY ?way, the part of the garden that was out of bounds to everyone..but it had been just what was needed to finish the project and such lovely realistic detail which now had a hole drilled in the base, a hosepipe threaded through said hole and was now spouting water from where its beak had once been...Yes, a large plastic garden ornament of an Owl had been just what was needed..

Now. im sure it can be glued back together and the tower of oddly shaped stones can be retrieved from neighbours gardens and fairy lights are fairly cheap to replace, the brightly coloured fishing garden gnome sadly sunk as the decidedly dodgy wooden bridge gave way as it was used to afford a swift exit and finally the bruises should fade soon enough and strangely enough there was one part of the garden that was never ventured near to again...
