I used to run at night. I loved running at night! This is what came out after I ran through the light of a street lamp. At first, my shadow surprised me, then softened and disappeared.
I have NO idea when this was written.

Dark Shadows--

As the sun settles heavy

And rushes to rest,

The sky blushes purple,

and welcomes what's next.

I welcome it, too.

Anonymously comes the night.

It overtakes you, unshapes you,

Until you are anonymous, too.

I find strange comfort in the dark.

With it comes a quiet that heals.

Offering a place to hide

Until you are cast in the light

And your self revealed.

Your shape is a sharp shadow,

Softening slowly as you move through.

It lengthens and lightens,

Looking for a place to run to.

In the anonymity of darkness,

I find the lightness in me.
