To lose you both within two years was so very hard to bear;
so now in verse I'll attempt of course your legacy to share.
So many things instantly come to mind and I will try to put them in order;
both so great in your own individual ways, each so unlike the other.
You always said be true to yourself and from that you must never stray;
be honest and kind and give of yourself to those that you meet along the way.
I remember so well the times you would yell and bring me quickly to tears;
but i also remember the times you were there to ease away my fears.
Don't give in you said over and over again to what others may want you to be;
look them straight in the eyes and tell them no lies and if they don't like it just leave.
The choices are yours; it is what you both said so many many times;
and if you mess up, correct what you must and you will continue to shine.
You know when I asked you if your car I could drive because I had somewhere to go;
I got so darned mad and yelled at you Dad when you actually did tell me no.
The next day you explained that all that you meant was that first there were things I must know;
a tire to change, the oil to check, how to stop on a dime in the snow.
I can't was just never an option, a term neither of you would allow;
you can do anything you set your mind to are the words i can hear clearly now.
So many late nite discussions about the mistakes you thought I was making.
I'd try to explain but you'd answer so fast, whose chain do you think you are yanking.
The more that I write, the more I remember about each one of you and your lessons in life.
and if I had listened to all that you said in my life there would've been much less strife.
But I hope you are proud as you look down today on the person that I have become;
the choices I've made I can see your heads shake but my work here is still not done.
