This is my first time publishing (and writing) a "fanfic". I went six months without writing anything creative after I finished a long screenplay, but I think I'm ready to get back into it! I have terrible writer's block, and I thought that writing out this scenario would help me get back into the habit.

Anyway, this is basically just Rick Castle proposing to Kate Beckett, set in the future. I tried to stay close to the characters and avoid any clichés!

A beautiful, tall brunette saunters around the corner of the crowded bullpen carrying a jacket over her arm. She is KATE BECKETT, a homicide detective and member of the NYPD force. Her charming partner (and boyfriend), RICHARD CASTLE, accompanies her. They are inaudibly chatting as they approach the elevator. Eventually their voices fade in:
CASTLE: ...All I'm saying is, that with a case like this, it had to be killer clowns.
BECKETT: You know Castle, I think this is the first case that didn't turn out at all like one of your ridiculous theories-
CASTLE: Hey, if it wasn't for me, we would have never found that brass ring which- conveniently- lead us right to our killer.
BECKETT: You mean if Ryan hadn't found the brass ring.
The two enter the elevator.
CASTLE: I helped.
CASTLE: (pressing the \"close\" button) Speaking of rings, I've been thinking...
The two stand smiling at each other, until
CASTLE: All day, I couldn't help but be reminded of the very first case we solved together.
BECKETT: Finding three men strangled in Central Park is hardly like finding a naked woman covered in flower petals.
CASTLE: I know. But it was fun. You know, as far as solving murders go.
Beckett smirks at him, Castle smiles.
CASTLE: Listen, I've been turning this over in my head for a while and... I think I'm going to retire Nikki Heat.
Beckett looks at him, stunned.
CASTLE: Seven books is quite the franchise, and I'm ready for change.
BECKETT: (confused, but processing) ...Oh. Yeah. If that's what you want.
CASTLE: It is what I want. (slowly smiling) And I want you to change with me. Beckett-
Beckett watches him expectantly.
CASTLE: (starting over) -Kate. No matter how many books I write, or however many cases we solve, I want to be there for you. And not just in the \"taking-down-a-gunman-with-a-giant-metal-ring-so-he-doesn't-shoot-you\" kind of way. I mean, really be there for you.
Castle takes her hands and slowly falls to one knee. Beckett looks at him with wide eyes.
BECKETT: (quickly) Castle what are you doing.
CASTLE: Something I've been wanting to do for a long time. Katherine Beckett, will you marry me?
Beckett, speechless and totally surprised, looks down at him. Soon, her face softens and she smiles widely.
BECKETT: (breathless) Um, yes. Yes, Castle.
CASTLE: Really?
Beckett nods. Castle stands up abruptly and presses the \"open\" button. The elevator doors open up to the bullpen where it seems the entire team is waiting.
CASTLE: (giddy) She said yes!
The bullpen explodes with happiness. Beckett laughs and Castle hugs her. RYAN, ESPOSITO, and the rest of the team walk over to congratulate them. The excited babbling become indistinguishable and the happy scene plays out a moment more before we slowly
