I wake up to the sound of waves gently crashing the shore… that’s pretty normal considering I’m on my dad’s million dollar yacht with my parents, boyfriend and best friends. Then I realise that I am covered in sand and a wet blanket…THAT’S not normal.

I bolt upright that was a bad idea because my long hair filled with sand ends up in my face.

“What the?!” I exclaim. Scanning my surroundings I see no sign of my companions, no sign of humans and no sign civilisation anywhere.

Groaning I slowly pick myself up.

“Don’t tell me that storm got the better of us last night” I mutter to myself.

“MUM?!” “DAD??!!” I called for my loving parents only to be replied with silence….

“Emma?! “ “Mimi?!” My besties always help but I receive silence once again

Huh…they must be trying to spook me, they KNOW that I get creeped out when I’m alone for too long.

Nice try guys I smile to myself. There is NO WAY my boyfriend wouldn’t answer.

“SCOTT?!, Where are you guys?” I shout

. In fact where are we? I silently ask.

Heartbreakingly I’m greeted with silence… this time too long for my brain to handle. I let out a glass shattering scream.

“AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!”

I drop down, hands in my hair, gasping to get air into my lungs.

Don’t worry Suze, they’re bound to be around somewhere you just haven’t found them yet.

I kept reassuring myself like that for a while.

Once I was myself again, I tried to recall the many lessons we spent on survival in school, the lessons I spent making crazy actions and bunny ears toward my teacher. After a while, I remembered enough to keep me going for at least a week. Right, I stood up when everything was fresh in my mind. I was ready for this, ready to keep myself alive for as long as possible. As I turned around I stopped only to come face-to-face with twenty metre high coconut trees with thick, lush jungle behind it, probably covering the rest of the island. Desperately trying not to have another emotional breakdown I go back to my blanket on the beach, wash it as well as I can and hang it up to dry on a nearby tree branch. Spotting an ant on the tree I grab my shoe off and kill it. “I HATE the jungle” I tell myself, but at least SOME things are beginning to work out.

Collecting some wood, I make myself a fireplace for future use and a torch for taking into the jungle with. After that, I got a few huge leaves and made myself a comfy enough bed, also for future use. I then resigned myself trying to start a fire and by some miracle, I did. So, feeling like Lara Croft, I began to walk toward the jungle with the torch (that I lit). It’s probably filled with HUNDREDS of carnivorous animals. Taking a deep breath I moved the massive (and heavy) leaf in front of me out of my way. SPLASH! Turns out the leaf WAS heavy…WITH WATER FROM THE STORM LAST NIGHT! And I was JUST getting dry! Despite that frustrating experience I soldiered on, not knowing the torch (which I lit) was now just a useless piece of wet wood.

Walking on, I was getting the uncomfortable feeling that something or someone was watching me. I quickly looked to my right… only to see a tiger. “Eh” I tell myself” it’s just a tiger, at least it wasn’t a psycho trying to kill me”. I was just about to take my next step when I realized what I had just said. I looked back again, slower this time and prayed it was all just a hallucination. The tiger stood there, perfectly still, just staring, like me, the only difference was it was calm and I wasn’t. Then I remembered my torch. Ha! Be scared you scary thing! I took a glance at my blazing hand torch…and almost fainted. WHY?! WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE ME?!

I heard a roar and that was my cue to run for dear life.

I was off! Running faster than I’d ever run before. I couldn’t hear anything after a good 800metres, so I figured I could slow down a bit, it just so happened that I passed a bush full of berries. Picking the bush of almost all its berries I heard a distant roar and ran outta there and back to camp at 200km/h. When I was back to safety I recalled what had just happened and I could’ve sworn I heard laughter somewhere in between those events…

“Great, I’m going crazy now!”

With the help of old skills I was able to catch fish for lunch and dinner. Sitting on a patch of grass near the shore munching on my JoJo berries (yes they are edible) I noticed something I didn’t notice before.

The nature all around me. I'd spent so much time hating and judging it, I never really realized how beautiful it could be. So interested and yet so confused at my new love for nature, I inspected the countless varieties of it all around me. I gasped at the vibrant colours of the assorted flowers here and there. I sighed at the luscious shades of green making up the jungle and trees. I wasn’t even scared when a butterfly decided to rest on my hand. Its beautiful combinations of greens, reds, yellows and blues had me eagerly watching its wings every move. It took a while for me to notice that it was getting colder so, setting the butterfly on a nearby flower I made my way back to my little camp and ate the fish and JoJo berries for dinner before the sun set. Patting my stomach I get up from my hand made kitchen to get into my handmade bed which faced the sea. When I turned around I almost cried from the sight I saw.

No, it wasn’t a rescue-boat, no it wasn’t a parcel with my name on it (this isn’t Cast Away for Pete’s Sake!) it was the sun, setting far off in the horizon. Its gorgeous oranges and purples filled the sky making the clouds look like white wisps of soft, delicious fairy floss. It made the water look as if a million stars and diamonds were floating on top. I sat there on my little bed and watched the distant jewel set until it was dark. Cuddling up in my blanket I lay down, exhausted and glanced at the sky, gasping again. The sky was filled with billions of stars, each shimmering like a diamond with a hundred cuts. Staring at the sky and listening to the shore I drifted off to sleep. The next morning I was energised and appreciative of this opportunity to explore, even though it came to me in a most uninviting way. I set out for a calming walk in the jungle, eager to see the inhabitants of the beautiful island and I wasn’t disappointed. I saw birds dive down and snatch their prey. I hid as the snakes snuck up on the birds and swallowed them whole but oddly enough, I didn’t see or hear the tiger. Feeling disappointed I trudged my way back to camp eating my JoJo berries for breakfast. When I got back I almost died…

“Scott?”… “Mum?”… “Dad?”… “Emma?”… ”Mimi?” I squinted; people were hiding behind them with something in their hands. “Random Guys?”

With that they all walked up to me, smiles on their faces and screamed

HEY SUZE!! YOU’VE JUST BEEN PRANKED ON NATIONAL TV!!!

“Oh I missed you guys too!…Wait! What?!”

Cameras were stuffed into my face, flashes were blinding me. I closed my eyes and staggered back at the sudden ambush. When I finally came to, I blinked, turned to the people I called my family and let out the biggest rant I could, forgetting about the camera I swore, later praying that the words had been beeped out.

After my episode, I calmly straightened my back and told them all to follow me. When I was running from the tiger, which later turned out to be a stuffed tiger but with real skin, I had run past a fairly high cliff. There were no rocks below and the water was deep.

“To thank you all for this wonderful experience, I’d like to show you a beautiful place I came across by when I was running from the tiger” I blushed scarlet when I said tiger, the sniggering didn’t help either. After a 10 minute walk, I stopped and turned around

“Please you’ll all have to go single file” I insisted. Still on a high after revealing I was pranked they all did as I said. When the line came to a halt and I heard the unsure muttering I ran, gave an almighty push, and watched gleefully as my family and the camera men fell off the cliff and into the water. Peering down to make sure they were alright, I picked up a camera one of the men had dropped smiled into it and turned it so that everyone could see them, still laughing I screamed out to them

“and that’s why you don’t mess with me! BAM!”
