Chapter Two

Malio and I walked around the forest for hours-just talking. Talking about everything and anything.

“Mahliah, there’s a special place I want to show you. You want to go?”

“Sure. Where’s it at?” He gave me the ‘Are you serious?’ look.

I remembered that we are vampires.

“Oh. I forgot it doesn’t matter. Let’s go.”

He held his hand out and I took it. We started running as fast as we could. We went past a few places I knew about. The one thing that slowed us down was me. Malio is way faster than me. So, it took a little longer than expected. But when we did get there, it was beautiful. We were on a cliff that overlooks the ocean. Just as the sun was coming up, the color changed from sapphire blue, to jade green.

“Malio, how did you find this place?

“When I was first created, I ran away thinking I was nuts. I ran as fast as I could until I came here. I stayed the night and never shared it with anyone. Until now with you.”

“That’s so sweet of you-to share it with me before you share with anyone else.”

“I thought you might like it.”

“I don’t like it…I love it.”

“I know you too well.”

“You sure do.” I said leaning on him. The hand on my right side was taken by Malio’s. He leaned on me too. I wish we could stay like this forever. It was nice-standing there with him-no cares in the world. It was like a scene in one of those movies.

“Mahliah, have you had your first kiss yet?” he asked.

“Will you laugh?” I asked.

“Promise I won’t.”

“No, Malio. I haven’t not with the one I’m in love with.”

“I can change that.” he said, leaning down. He turned me to face him, still holding my hand. With his other arm, he pulled me closer to him. With one last movement, our lips were touching. His lips parted and so did mine. He pulled away.

“How was that?” he asked

“Unlike anything.” I said.

“Hey, wanna hear something weird?”

“What?”

“My mom still doesn’t know you.”

“What? As many times as I come over there, she doesn’t know me?”

“You always sneak in through my window. She can’t see you.”

“Oh. Well, let’s go introduce your ‘new friend’ to your mom.”

“Sounds like a plan to me.”

We walked so we’d feel normal. It took a few more minutes longer than it took us to get there, but we eventually got there.

“Hey, Mom! I’m home!” he yelled when we got in the house.

I realized that I’ve never been in his living room before. It was spacious, comfortable, inviting, and warm.

“I’m in the kitchen!” his mom said.

“Ready?” he asked me?

“Yeah.” I said.

We walked into the kitchen and his mom was sitting at the counter doing a crossword puzzle. She looked up, saw me, and dropped what she was doing. She walked politely to where we were standing. She was about thirty. Long brown hair well past her shoulders.

“Hello. I’m Malio’s mom as you might know.” She said, thrusting her hand outward.

“I’m Mahliah. Nice to meet you, as well.” I replied.

“Well, you’re welcome here anytime you want.” she offered.

“Thank you, Miss McLyon. Your hospitality is accepted.” I replied.

“Come on, Mahliah. I have something else to show you.” Malio said.

“Alright. Lets go.”

We climbed the stairs to his room. When we walked in, I gasped.

“What happened?” I asked.

“To what?” he asked confused?

“The beautiful posters you had hung on the walls! Where’d they--” I started. I was instantly silenced by the CD he put in my hands. I looked at it-shocked. It was the Linkin Park album I had been begging for for three years. I actually thought they didn’t make them anymore.

“How did you know I wanted this?” I asked

“Like you said, ’I know you too well.”

“Ya’ got that right. Thank you so much! How can I repay you?”

“How about….another kiss?”

“Say no more.” I said stepping toward him. He leaned in and we had a repeat of when we were on the cliff earlier today.
