When people want to find out what my ethnicity is, they usually ask, “Are you Chinese?” Am I Chinese? No; and no, I don't have anything against Chinese people either. Why can't they just ask where I’m from? Or what my ethnicity is? If I answer: “No, I'm not Chinese,” then the next two questions they ask are: “Are you Japanese?” and “Are you Korean?” When I answer “no” again, finally they ask where I'm from. I find it really annoying—like I do with a lot of things. It’s like China, Japan, and Korea (both North and South) are the only Asian countries that exists! If you're not sure, dearest reader, go check a map. If you’re too lazy to, then I’ll tell you: they're not. Yes, really. (And I’m wondering if someone who reads this is going to think, “Holy crap, she’s made a break through! China isn’t the only Asian country; there are others, too!”)

I’m from a little country called the Philippines (that half of the United States' population probably don't know exist). You know, where all the tiny people are. But that doesn’t matter; other Asian countries are Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and even Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. Did you know that Pakistan and India are in Asia? If you didn’t, well, now you do.

Another thing that I find just plain rude and offensive is that not only do those ‘wrongly informed people’ assume that all Asians are Chinese, but if you correct them, they say something along the lines of: “Does it matter? All Asians look alike.” No, we don’t. We’re also not rude like those people and we don’t say “All black people look alike,” “All white folks look the same,” or “All Latinos look the same.” If you’re from Nigeria and someone insisted that you are Jamaican or so and so, how would you feel? If you are Albanian or Russian and someone told you are Serbian or French, you would feel offended, no? If you are Ecuadorian and someone said you are Dominican or Mexican, you wouldn't like it very much, now would you?

Yes, I’m just a complaining teenager, but you have to admit, what is said is true and you know it bothers you when that happens to you.

Thanks for reading~
