School

I hear the whispers in the hall
Shouting, talking through the walls
I feel nervous, I feel fear
At the start of this new school year

Will my teachers like me?
Or will we disagree?
Will I have new friends?
Will my old connections end?

Soon I’m use to everything
It becomes a worn-out song
Governed by those rings
Playing all yearlong
For 180 days
We shall play
Studying, reading, working,
And laughing, daydreaming, worrying

Then comes a recess,
A two month break
A time without the stress
Of tests to take
When I am lazy
When I am internet crazy

One day I look in the mirror
And feel the fear
Of a new school year
Again I listen to that singer
Of that familiar old song
That I’ll hear all yearlong
