An Unusual Visitor.
It was a pleasant morning. After my breakfast, I was sitting on a chair in the varandha at my home. Suddenly, I felt something was moved just behind me!. I turned back but nothing was there!. After a few seconds I heard a strange flapping of the wings that I haven't heard before. I got really scared.I just ran out of the varandha by pushing my chair back.
'Oh, It's a crow!'
After two days I saw the same crow on the tamarind tree. I could felt it as the same crow because the red colour of its eyes terrified me. It was looking at me!. When I tried to move, it also did the same.I quickly ran into the house but it went on sitting on the tree. It changed its position from the tamarind tree to the top of the water tank after a few minutes. I was worried about myself because in my grandma's stories these crows have been called as the souls of the dearest one's who had been passed away. I was alone at my home!
Next day, the strange 'visitor' didn't come. I searched everywhere the places it usually sits.In the evening I went to my grandma's house as she was not well. After one week I came back to my house. My mother was eagerly waiting for me to tell the strange story!.
''Ammu, everyday a crow comes and sits on the tamarind tree and looking into our house''.
I got stunned!. My mother went on the story.....
''When I discussed with the pujari of the nearest temple, he told me it would be the soul of our grandpa.
Whatever it is , I started to feed it''. She is not interested in digging the real and non-real stories. She wanted only to save us from the curse of our grandpa's soul.
The next day, I woke up with my my mother's sweet voice!. She was calling out very loudly. Whenever she calls me I feel that Ammini is bawling!. She is my mother's pet cow!. When Ammini feels hungry she will start bawling very loudly. My mother loves her so much. I am not sure, but I get confused of my pet name. My mother may be attracted by Ammini's cry!...''mmoooooo''. From the bed itself children will get small responsibilities like plucking the chillies or tomatoes or some other vegetable from the kitchen garden. My mother doesn't like to repeat anything twice. If it is not done at time I have to face her sad face. That I didn't like.
I rushed to the garden. There I heard the very familiar sound! very rough! just as calling my name.
''mm mm mm..'' My courage didn't allow me to look at that side.I ran towards the kitchen with the chillies what I had got. I heard fluttering of the wings! It reached very fast near to me. It got over!. I just shocked because it sat on my head by clinging on my hair! and scratched on my forehead. I cried loudly for help . My mother came running out of the kitchen with a long stick and shouted at the crow. After the five - minute long fight between my mother and the crow, finally it flew away.
On the spot, my mother offered a number of things to the temple. My father is right ..I felt. He used to tease her like 'the pujari survives of your offerings'!
I was confused on this" Why did the bird follow me ?
Why did it give me such haunting days and the painful morning?
I don't know whether my mother was right or not.. but I haven't seen the bird ever in my life after that..
