a bright blue day
all around snow did lay
a wilted red rose for respects to pay
a white dress for a special day
he left a few i-do's to say
when for freedom his life he did pay
a folded flag was simply a token
a simple thank you for a heart left broken
he gave us everything
but left her simply aching
she kept on hoping and waiting
its not real hes still coming
through summer and spring she waited
in fall she planned to be with her fated
love etched in silver and diamond
on her finger twas tightly fastened
a box of letters said all but not enough
like her rose, red fell on her cuff
the heavens opened as if to cry
fading eyes towards the pouring sky
 a whispered i do's said in a shush
the rose slid away in the slush
for them what a sad song the angels must sing
but still must come next years spring
together at last on earth they did lay
but will her sin forever keep their souls at bay?
