He is so beautiful to me
With dark eyes and hair
Sweet smile and contagious joy
He’s one of the rare human beings
Who actually don’t mind their job

His tunic is tattered, splattered, and muddy
He’s an outdoors man,
And his fragrance is woody, but never musty
His hands are soft, but calloused from work
His eyes are kind, but firm like a father’s
His arms are long and strong,
And he carries me frequently, like he calls me his own

My defender brings nothing
But his own scars, his blood, his sweat
The judge seems to favor and appease him
For he always offers love, mercy and grace
His winning record is undefeated
It makes me feel safe my attorney is always victorious

He bailed me out some time ago
With three nails and torn flesh of his own
He poured out his blood
For the atonement of my sin
Because we all know:
Death would've been our punishment

But my attorney
Said I was worth it
This is grace I don't understand
But gladly accept
He calls me his daughter, he calls me his child
He calls me his bride,
which one day I'll be called to his palace
Dressed in white, righteousness and purity
And spend eternity with my King

He takes me by the hand
Kisses my cheek
Says "Daughter I see no stain on you
Your white cloaks are clean"
I nod my gratitude,
Lost in awe and aspiration
My Father, My Lawyer
My Defender of Adoption
