I used to take breathing for granted.

In and out, in and out, air steadily flowed

As if I had a million breathes to spare,

But now my breathes have slowed.

I gasp, but my lungs tighten.

Sharp pain radiates through me.

I am suffocating

As I sink deeper and deeper into this sea.

My cries are silenced as water rushes into me,

I am left without a voice.

No one can save me now

For the water made its choice.

It has become dark, and I am cold.

I will never know a peaceful death.

I wish I lived life differently

And had valued every breath.
