I trusted you to protect me,

But you spat all over my pride.

And now I am left with nothing

But a heart that has withered and died.

You were meant to be there to guide me

When tears caused my vision to blur.

But you are the one who hurt me

With the venomous words you slurred.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I may be hurt, but I’m not broken.

I may be bitter, but my words remain unspoken.

I may be lost, but I still stand tall.

I may feel dejected, but tears will not fall.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

You tell me that you deserve thanks,

That you really did your best.

But that’s the delusional thinking

Caused by the bottle you hold to your chest.

Not once did you apologize

For the misery that I knew.

From the fists that flailed at five

To the hateful words that I woke to.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Don’t try to call, your number has been blocked.

Don’t try to visit, you’ll find the doors all locked.

Don’t tell me we are family, until you learn what that entails.

Don’t tell me that I need you, for as a father you have failed.
