I haven't posted anything in a while, but this is just a quick poem I wrote about a friends with benefits relationship where one falls for their partner.

With black eyes and black hair

You stare down at me.

With strong hands and soft smile

You hold me.

Together, we endured the night

And greeted the day.

But I hate when the sun rises,

For it means I have to go.

We are not lovers,

In fact, we are hardly friends.

But we share moments together

That I cherish.

You sweep my hair to the side

And kiss me sweetly.

You graze your hands upon my bare skin

And I shiver.

Together I feel that we’re invincible,

But I can’t tell you that.

I believe we could have so much more,

But the standard has been set.

I am here for your enjoyment,

And you for mine.

But there is nothing more to it,

No complications, just a casual night.

But this relationship has begun to change,

And as we greet the day, we lay together and chat.

No longer are we running at the first sign of the sun,

We lay, holding each other, talking and laughing.

How could you do this to me?!

How could you be so cruel?!

I know you want nothing more,

So stop killing me with your kindness.

I am not ready for our meetings to end,

But I don’t know if I can endure this pain anymore.

For what are the benefits

Of having you in my arms, when you’re just out of reach.
