BEAR GRYLLS

The Person I'm about to talk to you about has been to many parts of the world like the freezing arctic and the scorching heat of the deserts.  He has also explored many of the unknown wonders of the world  Now he spends a lot of his time as a  motivational speaker, boy I wish he could have helped me write this speech.

Edward Michael Grylls was born in Northern Ireland on the 7th June 1974, making him 43 years old. He is better known as Bear Grylls, the nickname given to him by his older sister Lara when he was only one week old because he was adventurous.

Bear Grylls grew up to have a bit of a naughty streak in him when it came to school, and was even suspended when he was caught french kissing the Headmaster's daughter while on a school camp. He went on to Eton College, which is the same school that Princes William and Harry went to.

Bear Grylls got a second dan black belt in shotokan karate when he was a kid. Between 1994 & 1997 Bear was a member of the 21 SAS. While in the  SAS he broke his back in a parachuting accident in Zambia when his parachute wouldn't inflate.

After recovering from the parachute accident he left the SAS and made the decision to follow his childhood dream of climbing Mount Everest. While preparing for the climb he climbed Ama dablam a peak described by Sir Edmund Hillary as unclimbable.

While climbing mount Everest he had a fall at 5,800 meters above sea level. His friend helped him back up the crevasse he fell down and they continued climbing. This fall didn’t stop him from achieving his dream and Bear became the youngest English man to climb both mountains.

Bear Grylls married Shara Cannings Knight in 2000, and they went on to have three children together, who they named Jesse, Marmaduke, and Huckleberry.

Bear grylls has many TV programs some very popular ones that you might know are ‘Man vs Wild’ which he makes $30,000 per episode, and ‘Running Wild’ where he takes very popular celebrities like Barack Obama into the wild. As well as ‘Survival School’, where he takes children who he thinks would be good on a survival challenge for twelve days to try to make them get over their fears, and to learn how to get along with others. He also hosts ‘The Island’ another survival show, along with others.

Bear Grylls holds some world records as I have already mentioned but he has a few more like highest open air dinner party in a hot air balloon at 7,600 meters above the ground.

Bear wanted to pass on his knowledge of survival and bushcraft with others, joining the scouts and becoming the youngest Chief Scout in Britain. He also rowed along the Thames river naked in a bathtub to raise money for a friend who lost his legs in a climbing accident, but why naked? Maybe he thought that the girls would give him more money.

Bear Grylls loves what he does and has been to many parts of the world we wouldn't even think about going to.  He has taken celebrity's into these harsh environments and tested their limits.  Bear Grylls has become a very popular tv celebrity, with thousands of viewers world wide tuning into his episodes.  Finally there is a quote from Bear grylls that I think is very appropriate, it goes like this “The line between life or death is determined by what we are willing to do”. Therefore we should all try our hardest at everything we do.
