The Seduction
A light breeze blew through the open car window of Josie Shumer’s Nissan cooling her pink cheeks. She was nervous. This was the man she’d been searching for, and now that she was so close to having him, she felt jittery.Looking anxiously at her watch, she realized she’d only been waiting a few minutes although it felt more like thirty.
She looked at herself in the mirror, ran her fingers through her blond hair, and practiced her sweetest smile.Everyone always told her she looked as innocent as a baby, and for once, she hoped to use that to her advantage.
Glancing down at her chest, she unbuttoned another button on her blouse and rearranged her breasts. Those certainly didn’t look innocent, but this was important to her.She wanted to use every tool she had for the best possible advantage.
Looking toward the fraternity house, she was relieved to see him step outside carrying a single black overnight bag and looking as handsome as she remembered. His looks definitely were her initial reason for choosing him, but it was more than that.Jeff Whiting had charisma.People gravitated toward him, looked up to him.Josie admired that trait. Most of all Jeff had a very good heart.
She stepped out of the car and waved, smiling innocently.“Jeff! Over here!”
He grinned when he saw her and walked briskly to the car.“Hi Josie! Thanks again for letting me carpool with you. You’re really saving my ass.”
He’d explained to her when they first met that he’d recently wrecked his car, but hadn’t told his parents.By letting him carpool with her, it allowed him a little more time to think up a way to have the car fixed before they found out.
“No problem,” she said with a smile.“Here, let me put that bag in the trunk for you.”
“I can do it.”
“No,” she said smiling.“You’re my guest. I’ll take care of it.”
Shrugging, he pulled the bag off his shoulder and handed it over.He watched as she opened the trunk and threw the bag inside.
“See, I can handle it - no problem,” she smiled brightly as she slammed the trunk.
Sitting side by side in the front seat, they buckled up. “Now, I want this to be fun for you, ok?I have all different kinds of CD’s and I packed snacks.Plus, there’s a cooler in the back seat with water and soda.”
“Sounds like you’ve thought of everything,” he smiled at her and his whole face lit up.Her heart beat faster at his praise, very pleased that he was the one she’d chosen.
As she drove they talked about everything; current events, politics, pop culture. They got along wonderfully and shared the same sense of humor. They felt completely at ease together, just as Josie knew they would.
An hour into the drive she caught him staring at her cleavage, which pleased her immensely.Pretending to scratch her neck, she pulled her blouse down farther allowing him a more enticing view. The bra she wore was pink with lots of lace around the cups. She’d picked it out just for him, knowing that he’d love it.
An hour and a half into the ride she faked a yawn, arching her back and watching him slyly try to catch another peek. She looked at him, holding his eyes for a few seconds and smiled invitingly, before returning her eyes to the road.A few minutes later, driving down a nearly deserted two-lane highway, Josie faked another yawn.
“You’re looking pretty tired there,” he said sweetly.“Maybe we should pullover somewhere and have a little snack. You can get out and stretch your legs.”
Josie looked at the road, pretending to consider this.“Ok, I guess you’re not an axe murderer or anything.”
He laughed at the idea and she joined in giggling daintily.A quarter of a mile down the highway she turned onto a gravel road and drove until she found a clearing big enough to park.
“You know I really like you,” she said shyly reaching for his hand. “I think this little rest is a great idea.”
She smiled and held his gaze, before reluctantly stepping out and going to the back of the car.“I have a blanket here in the trunk, why don’t you pull the cooler out of the backseat. We can make a little picnic out of it.”
She opened the trunk, reaching inside, as he opened the back door to get the cooler.Quickly she grabbed what she needed and stepped around the back of the car to stand directly behind him.She could hear the ice in the cooler rattle as she lightly touched his shoulder.
“Jeff, I’m so glad that I chose you.”
He turned holding the cooler in both hands, smiling that charismatic smile that she loved. When he saw the hatchet in her hand, he looked mildly surprised, but not scared.Even as Josie held it over her head he didn’t understand what was about to happen.
With a soft grunt, Josie brought the hatchet down quickly, smacking him hard on the right side of his head. There was a dull thud and a cracking sound similar to splitting wood.Jeff dropped the cooler, and the ice rattled inside.Blood and brain matter splattered everywhere, and the hatchet stuck in Jeff’s skull. She hadn’t planned on that.
He continued standing for a few seconds making one small gurgling sound like that of an infant blowing a bubble then he fell over the cooler, twitching.Josie gave the hatchet a good yank to pull it out of his skull and stood transfixed as she watched the blood pooling under his head, mesmerized by the dark red stickiness.
She stood like that, with blood and brain chunks covering her face, for several minutes before she raised the hatchet over her head again and gave him two more solid whacks until the twitching stopped.Satisfied that he was dead, she dropped the hatchet and rolled him off the cooler onto his back.
His face wasn’t nearly as handsome, but she still loved him.He was hers after all.Going to the trunk, she pulled out a large, red toolbox and got to work.
Three hours later, wearing clean clothes and freshly scrubbed with the soap and wash water that she’d stored in the trunk, Josie Shumer drove down the two-lane highway, her hand resting lightly on the cooler sitting in the passenger seat. She hummed along with the radio for several miles, her eyes occasionally darting to look at the passenger seat. She continued to hum until she couldn’t stand it anymore.Taking her eyes off the road, she opened the cooler and peered inside.
There in the small, clear plastic tub, sitting on top of the ice was Jeff Whiting’s still warm heart. She sighed, and smiled sweetly as she closed the lid.She was so glad that she chose him; he did after all have a very good heart.
