Let Me Go
I’m still standing in the shadows
Of your slumbering deceit,
Trying to find ways out of this oppression.
Each heartbeat pulsed power
Into the intent of your hand
As it fell
Mercilessly
Against my face.
Echoes are still in my head now,
Loathed and weeping through the
Corridors of things I do not
Understand,
And try to forget.
I want to be free from
This grueling power
That grasps my neck
With a cold,
Insolent glare—
Staring pain into my soul,
Filling its own eyes with glee…
It delights in the forsakenness of my pride
And dignity.
I want to burn these fetters
Of a larger hand,
And follow my own path
Without hostility.
Then, I will rest in my allotted space
Six feet under
In the peace I deserve.
