Shedding Light
Selfish thoughts of suicide crawl
across the blackened landscape
of This world.
Leaving the letter,
doing the deed,
and watching the tears that come after—
the haunting of a lifetime’s heart.
Could life be better without me?
Would he find his true purpose and love?
Should I be the sacrifice for his true happiness?
Then the gun to my head falls to the floor.
Shame marches in a sure parade
through my soul,
and a flame is ignited to dispose of these thoughts…
but they never truly disappear.
Day to day,
I reanimate the remains to dance,
and assure myself they will only truly dance with the flame.
What if the day comes that the light never shines?
Life…
So fragile—
so easy to break,
but so hard to heal.
