The Voice of Fear
I delude you.
A fervent tremor of the mind
May cause your heart to skip a beat,
And just maybe
You will only see darkness fall over your eyes.
I keep you in corners.
Sit there and think about what you did,
and regret trying to free yourself from my grasp;
Trappings of growth and luster,
I block out and despise--
Desperation is your sentence,
And upon your will,
I choose to dine.
You will never see my face.
Every mirror will only show the marrs of time,
and the pervasiveness of memory.
I am the shadow on your back.
Your shoulders feel heavy,
And your chest is tight;
I hold the strings of your mind,
And use them to pull your body taught.
I steal your expression.
Every time the pen bleeds to express an idea,
I am there to berate you,
And question if it's good enough.
I am always hungry.
Your suffering and anxieties feed me,
Your doubt completes me,
And your wounds nurture my design.
I am the lowly captor.
I am the architect of the stagnation
I am fear.
