Nail On the Wall

This poem is about trying to overcome the feeling of being abandoned. It's about resiliency.

Nail on the wall,

Showing where the picture used to be.

The picture I couldn't shake.

The image of that empty nail so clear in my mind.

Now, the picture gone,

I go back to the spot where it was,

Trying to force it back to the way it used to be.

I guess I'll never let go, will I?

But how can I?

I doubt many people have.

Forget,

Forget...

Memories come back,

They come back when I don't want them to.

So inopportune.

I shake my head,

Jumbling my thoughts,

Forcing the dark ones away...

I let out a puff of wind,

Leaving a cloud of white dangling in the cold air.

Hallow...

Shallow...

Somehow stronger.

Nail on the wall,

Surfacing the memory.

That little piece of metal,

So empty,

So alone...

I grab it,

Observe it as if it had some still-hidden secret...

Finally, I throw it out the window,

Closing my eyes so I don't see where it lands,

Afraid I'll chase after it...

Dozy

So simple, so captivating ... and a defenestrated nail. I understand exactly why you didn't watch. Well written!
