The Shadows

In my room at night the shadows come,
Playing about on walls of solid fear,

I pull the covers up close to me,
And shiver when they start to draw near.

I don’t know if they are friend or foe,
I think they sense the fear I feel,

Their sickest pleasure is to frighten me,
They are here for my innocence to steal.

When they start to devour the light,
A black hole appears above my head,

It expands it jaws to engulf me,
Its ominous shadow creeps up my bed.

Then I flick on my table lamp switch,
It floods the room with powerful light,

The shadows scream and explode into nothing,
I will fight another battle tomorrow night.
