I did the usual,
the a.m. routine
of make-up and hair gel.
Poured another cup of
black coffee,
bitter this morning.

Ironing seems too
much trouble,
so I button down
my wrinkled pink oxford
and tie my
tired shoes,
rushing out the door.

Traffic is terrible,
as usual.
I cuss the slow cars
in the fast lane.
Fifteen minutes
to make it there.

My steps hurried
to make it on time.
An elderly couple step in front.
I smile, and open the
heavy door,
"You're so kind".

As usual,
I was only stalling.
